"I love Jesus, but I drink a little"

So I was wrapping up a long day last night and checking Facebook, when I noticed our friend Gina posted this clip from an Ellen Degeneres show. Always interested in a good Ellen clip, I started watching and was soon laughing so hard I could barely breathe.

A few moments later, Kates came home from a late night of working in her classroom and I decided she needed the laughter, too.

The hardest I've laughed in a long time.

Songs of the week

Two songs fueling me this week.

First, "Royals" by Lorde. I was catching up on VH1's Top 20 Monday, and "Royals" came on at No. 18. It was my first time hearing the song, and it stopped me in my tracks. I heard it on the radio for the first time yesterday morning, and I'm thinking it's going to be all over the place this fall. I've since listened to it about a half dozen times, via YouTube and will be downloading it to my iTunes library the first chance I get.

Second, "Into Giants" by Patrick Watson. It's been on my iPod for some time, but it came to play last night as I was lounging in our living room and the girls were giggling and happily getting ready for bed. In that wonderful life at home moment, it struck me hard as a wonderful, whimsical and epic song. I especially like the rousing trumpet and percussion as the song builds to its finale  ...

Folk Duo Covers Cantina Song From 'Star Wars'

From Paste's "Awesome of the Day" today ...
Victor & Penny, a folk/blues duo from Kansas City, have finally brought peace to the galaxy with their cover of the “Cantina Band” song from "Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope." Due to its repetitive nature, that song will forever be burned into the brains of any die-hard "Star Wars" fans. Thankfully, the duo of Victor & Penny have taken the time to give the song new life with their refreshing blues-rock cover.
So awesome. Rock on.
