Beach party!

... Let's see, two consecutive nights of Summerfest (Night 1 ... Night 2), Nostalgia Fest, a baseball game, another night of Summerfest ... and I'm wiped. Since Friday night, there hasn't been a night I've gotten to bed before 1 a.m., and no morning I've gotten up later than 8 a.m. ...

To celebrate the Fourth of July yesterday, Kates and I road tripped up to Sheboygan to share the day with some of her family ...

We watched cardboard boat races on the harbor, and then settled on the beach where we tossed a baseball and a frisbee. We walked the pier to the lighthouse and back. Listened to a little "Pink Houses." Built a campfire. Grilled brats and cooked beans over the open fire. And read books and magazines until it was too dark to see the print ...

All with Lake Michigan as our back drop ... Awesome.

For a few minutes last night, I climbed the hill behind the beach and took some time to gaze over the thousands of people filling the beach. Small camps everywhere and fires dotting the sand. It was poetic Americana ...

... And then came the fireworks.
